Your Child Deserves to Be Understood & Supported

Helping families celebrate their child’s unique strengths and support their needs through comprehensive evaluations and therapy.

When the Signs Are There, But the Answers Aren’t

It’s not always easy to tell what’s behind your child’s challenges. You may see signs everyday, but finding answers can feel overwhelming.
Your child might be:
  • Struggling to focus, finish tasks, or stay organized
  • Falling behind in reading, writing, or math
  • Experiencing worry, sadness, or mood swings
  • Having meltdowns, shutdowns, or frequent conflicts
  • Finding it hard to make or keep friends
When challenges like these persist, they can impact your child’s independence, sense of belonging, and long-term well-being.
You don’t have to navigate this alone. There is a way forward.

Clarity Today & Confidence  for Tomorrow

Your child deserves to be seen and celebrated for who they are.

Let’s uncover what’s really going on by understanding your child’s learning and emotional profile, so you can move forward with a clear plan. Whether it’s ADHD, autism, anxiety, trauma, a learning difference, or something harder to define, we’re here to help you make sense of it all.

It’s time for:

  • Compassionate guidance from a provider who sees the whole child, not just a diagnosis
  • Relief from the uncertainty and second-guessing to best support your child
  • Clear answers and support recommendations for home and school

Psychoeducational Evaluations in Our La Mesa Office

Gain a clear understanding of how your child learns and what they need to thrive.

All evaluations at Get Psyched are led by Misty Bonta, a Licensed Educational Psychologist with advanced training in school neuropsychology (ABSNP). This means your child’s evaluation goes beyond the basics. It’s grounded in a deep understanding of how the brain processes information and how that impacts learning, behavior, and emotions.

Our comprehensive evaluations are designed to identify:
  • Struggling to focus, finish tasks, or stay organized

  • Experiencing worry, sadness, or mood swings
  • Having meltdowns, shutdowns, or frequent conflicts
Where appropriate, we also provide DSM-aligned diagnoses to help you access the right services and support.

Neurodiversity Affirming Therapy for San Diego Children

Support that honors your child’s unique brain.

We provide therapy for children and teens who are neurodivergent, including those with ADHD, autism, learning differences, anxiety, or big emotions that feel hard to manage. Whether your child has a formal diagnosis or not, we meet them where they are with empathy, flexibility, and curiosity.

Our therapy services are designed to identify:
  • Neurodiversity-affirming: Focused on helping each child understand and embrace who they are, not on “fixing” them
  • Skill-building and strength-based: Designed to support emotional regulation, self-advocacy, and meaningful connection
  • Trauma-informed: Built on an understanding of the widespread impact of trauma, with emotionally safe spaces for healing and growth
  • Rooted in educational expertise: Bridges the gap between school and mental health for support that works in real life
  • Evidence-based and creative: Incorporating modalities like CBT, ACT, DBT, play therapy, and expressive arts therapy tailored to each child’s unique needs
Therapy can be helpful on its own or as a follow-up to an evaluation. Either way, your child will be seen, heard, and supported in a way that respects their unique mind.

Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)

Ensure your child’s strengths and challenges are accurately understood and supported.

If you’ve received an evaluation from your child’s school but feel that something was missed or if you disagree with the results, you have the legal right to request an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)at the school district’s expense.

An IEE is a neutral, in-depth evaluation conducted
by a qualified professional outside of the school system.

  • A comprehensive, neuro-informed evaluation that goes beyond the basics

  • Unbiased findings grounded in clinical expertise and educational best practices
  • Parent-friendly explanations of results
  • Empowering Child-Friendly Feedback Sessions
  • Documentation that is legally sound

Frequently Asked Questions

I think my child needs help, but what exactly is a psychoeducational evaluation?

A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive process that looks at how your child learns, thinks, and processes information. It can identify learning strengths and areas where your child may need extra support. We use a combination of interviews, questionnaires, observations, and standardized tests to understand your child’s cognitive skills, academic abilities, and social-emotional functioning. The goal is to give you clear answers, actionable recommendations, and a plan to help your child succeed at school and at home.

Can this type of testing tell me if my child has ADHD or something else going on?

Yes. A psychoeducational evaluation can help determine if your child has ADHD or other differences that may be affecting attention, behavior, or school performance. We look at the whole picture, so you get an accurate understanding of what is going on and how to address it.

Can this evaluation also help if I’m concerned about my child’s anxiety?

Absolutely. Anxiety can have a significant impact on a child’s ability to focus, learn, and thrive. Our evaluations can identify signs of anxiety and clarify whether it is a primary concern or connected to another challenge, such as a learning difference. We also provide recommendations for supporting your child’s emotional well-being alongside their academic needs.

Will insurance help cover the cost of the evaluation?

Psychoeducational evaluations are not generally covered by insurance. Some families are able to use out-of-network benefits for partial reimbursement, depending on their insurance plan. We are happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company to see if they will reimburse you.

Do I need a referral to get my child tested for dyslexia?

No referral is needed. You can contact us directly to schedule an evaluation. Many parents come to us after noticing their child is struggling with reading or spelling, or after a teacher has raised concerns. Early identification and support can make a big difference.

What ages do you work with for autism evaluations?

We offer autism evaluations for children, teens, and young adults. Our approach is tailored to the individual’s age and developmental stage, so we can capture the most accurate picture of their strengths and challenges.

How much does an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) cost?

An Independent Educational Evaluation, or IEE, is an impartial evaluation completed by someone who is not employed by your child’s school district. Parents often request an IEE if they disagree with the results of a school evaluation or believe something important may have been missed in their child’s IEP. The school district covers the cost of the IEE. If you are considering this option, we can walk you through the process so you understand your rights and what to expect every step of the way.
